EA Taking Medal of Honor ‘Out of Rotation’
Decision Was Made After Poor Warfighter Performance
The long-running Medal of Honor series is now ‘out of rotation’, EA announced at its third quarter financial call. The decision was made after the latest game in the series, Medal of Honor: Warfighter’s poor performance, both commercially and critically. We didn’t think much of it at all.
“The game was solid, but the focus on combat authenticity did not resonate with consumers,” EA COO Peter Moore said.
“Critics were polarized and gave the game scores which were, frankly, lower than it deserved. This one is behind us now. We are taking Medal of Honor out of the rotation and have a plan to bring year-over-year continuity to our shooter offerings.”
The first Medal of Honor was released in 1999 and was predominately a World War II series until it was taken into the modern setting in order to challenge Call of Duty (And to make EA more money…)
Without Medal of Honor, EA’s library of shooters is looking rather bare with only the Battlefield and Crysis 3 as it’s standout franchises.
