EA Snub Wii U Again As Madden NFL 25 Skips Nintendo’s New Console
Heavy Yellow Hankey Thrown Down
EA has confirmed that Madden NFL 25, which is widely expected to be one of the best-selling games in the US this year, will not be releasing on the Wii U. It is the first time a Madden title has failed to launch on a Nintendo console since 1991.
“We will not be releasing a Wii U version of Madden NFL in 2013,” EA said. “However, we have a strong partnership with Nintendo and will continue to evaluate opportunities for delivering additional Madden NFL products for Nintendo fans in the future.”
The unprecedented move marks another significant blow for the Wii U’s ailing third-party support. A number of key titles have already skipped Nintendo’s platform, with publishers unwilling to risk or tailor their games for the Wii U.
To date, EA has released only three games for Nintendo’s home console: a standard port of Mass Effect 3, a stripped down version of FIFA 13 and an enhanced port of Need For Speed: Most Wanted. It remains to be seen whether FIFA 14 will also skip the Wii U, with announcement yet to be made.
